Archived Events and News Previously Posted on the CMA Website in or for JANUARY 2005Youth Ministry Network Upcoming Events (Posted 11/19/04 - 1/31/05) CONTEXTUAL EDUCATION ADMINISTRATIVE POSITION: CHICAGO THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY Chicago Theological Seminary seeks a full-time administrative colleague in contextual education, to oversee the Lilly-funded Making the Connections grant, to provide leadership and instruction in the Center for Community Transformation, and to collaborate with the M.Div. Director in administering all student field placements. Due to the range of duties involved in this position, we seek a highly motivated, organized individual who has proven experience in at least two of the following three areas: urban parish ministry, community organizing, and innovative program development. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrable understanding of the relationship of ministry to social transformation; an ability to work effectively and pastorally in diverse communities and with a wide diversity of students; and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between academic excellence and community practices of ministry. A D.Min. is preferred, but candidates with appropriate Masters education and experience will be considered. This position, beginning after January 1, 2005, is grant-funded through June, 2009. The position is 15 hours per week and includes handling all aspects of our AV library and offering whatever other assistance is needed and possible in the Westchester office. The person needs to be able to utilize the computer well and to have gifts in offering helpful service to our constituents. It would be a special blessing in this particular position to have a UCC member and also one experienced in Christian Education, but neither is a requirement. WORKSHOP Worship Alive! continues its tradition of bringing some of the very best worship practitioners and trainers from around the world to Chicago area churches. The next workshop is Weaving Music through Liturgy with Marty Haugen on Sunday, January 23, 2005, at the United Church of Rogers Park in Chicago. Music plays an essential role in the full, active and conscious participation of the assembly in worship. This workshop will walk through the four-fold ancient liturgical form--gathering, Word, Eucharist, sending--and offer creative and diverse musical suggestions that undergird and enhance the flow of this structure and deepen the prayer and worship life of the community. Marty Haugen is a liturgical composer, workshop presenter, performing and recording artist and author from Eagan, Minnesota. For the past 20 years, Marty has presented hundreds of workshops and concerts around the globe and produced more than 30 recordings and 400 printed editions. Marty has composed a number of communion settings for Lutheran congregations. Marty has served as an editor and/or consultant to the GIA hymnals Gather, Gather Comprehensive and RitualSong, and has been a contributor to hymnals or supplements for many denominational groups in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain and Australia. This workshop is part of the Worship Alive! workshop series that provides resources and training in multicultural worship for justice-seeking congregations. The next two-day CMA Boundary Training Workshop for Clergy with standing in CMA will be held Friday, April 29, 2005, 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm, and Saturday, April 30, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm, at Christ Memorial Church UCC, 2440 York St, Blue Island 60406 (708-389-7710). If Boundary Training becomes mandatory, these workshops will count for those who attend the entire session on both days. Ecumenical Prayer ServiceThe Ecumenical Millennium Committee invites you to the Fifth Annual Ecumenical Prayer Service to mark The 2005 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The Service will be held on Friday, January 21, 2005 at 7:00 pm at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 1017 N. La Salle Drive, Chicago. Bishop Paul Landahl of the Metropolitan Chicago Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is scheduled to preach.
