Draft Information and Counseling
March 4th and 5th
Chicago Youth for Conscientious Objection and other area peace groups are offering

At the Portage Park Center for the Arts
FREE!
J. E. McNeil, from the Center on Conscience and War in Washington, DC, will be
present to discuss the likelihood of a military draft, the reality of the "poverty
draft" and the legal elements of conscientious objection status.
All are welcome! High school seniors, college freshmen and sophomores will be most
adversely affected if and when a draft begins. We encourage you to attend.
B. ONE-DAY DRAFT COUNSELING TRAINING WORKSHOP
Saturday, March 5, 2005, 9 am - 5 pm

resistors, and demonstrators in many court cases. Ms. McNeil is the Executive Director
of the Center on Conscience and War (CCW), in Washington, D.C. CCW was formed in 1949
by an association of religious bodies. Working to defend and extend the rights of
conscientious objectors, CCW supports all those who question participation in war.
For more information on CCW, visit their website at:
www.nisbco.org
These events are sponsored in part by Youth for Conscientious Objection, Evanston
Friends Peace and Social Concerns Committee, North Shore Friends Meeting.
Conscientious Objection: Some people have moral or religious convictions
that lead them to regard war, military service and selective service registration
as unacceptable. Many people believe that loving our neighbors and even our enemies,
is a principal incompatible with a military approach to conflict. Still others hold
that in practical terms, fighting wars cannot ever bring about lasting peace.
