THURSDAY, AUGUST 25: CMA CLERGY DISCUSSION OF EQUAL MARRIAGE RIGHTS
The UCC General Synod that met in Atlanta in July 2005 adopted a resolution
entitled: In Support of Equal Marriage Rights For All. CMA
Co-Ministers, Rev. Michael Denton and Rev. Edward Goode, have called for
all active CMA clergy to gather in Chicago on August 25th for a discussion of
this resolution before the fall church program year gets into full swing.
The goals of this discussion gathering are twofold:
1. To give active CMA clergy an opportunity to talk with each other about any
concerns they may have about this resolution (personally, structurally,
pastorally, or for their congregation).
2. To provide an opportunity for CMA pastors to share resources that can help
within their congregational/institutional settings, or to consider what a
helpful resource might look like so that such a resource can be developed.
We know that CMA pastors are in a variety of places around this issue, and
we want to have a respectful discussion where various perspectives can be
heard and resources considered.
This discussion gathering will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2005 from 11
am to 1 pm (over lunch) at Bethany UCC, 4250 N Paulina St, Chicago 60613
(773-472-0729).
CMA Clergy are welcome to bring their own lunch, or one can be provided for you
for only $7.00. To order a lunch for this meeting, please call the CMA
office no later than Monday, August 22, at 312-939-5918 or send an email
to cma@cmaucc.org.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3: JANET MACLEAN ECCLESIASTICAL COUNCIL
On Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 7:00 pm, Cluster Three, on behalf of the Chicago

determine if she should be ordained as a minister in the United Church of Christ. This
council will be held at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 460 Lake Street in Oak Park

standing in CMA and two lay delegates from each church with standing in CMA, are eligible
to vote. A quorum requires that at least one lay delegate from each of at least one-third
of the churches within the host cluster be present, or that at least one lay delegate from
each of 12 churches in other clusters and one clergy from each of 12 churches in other
clusters be present.
