Details and Additional EventsMay 2008MONDAY, MAY 5: ROB LEVERIDGE ECCLESIASTICAL COUNCILOn Monday, May 5, 2008, the Cluster Three Churches of the Chicago Metropolitan Association, United Church of Christ, will host an Ecclesiastical Council for Rob Leveridge, to consider his qualifications for ministry in the United Church of Christ. The Council will be held at 7 pm at Galewood Community Church UCC, 1776 North Narragansett Av, Chicago (773-889-3334). Rob is a member of Galewood Community Church and has been called by Chicago Theological Seminary to be Minister for Seminary Relations. You can read his Ordination Paper here. CMA Church Lay Delegates, clergy and laity are all encouraged to attend. MONDAY, MAY 5: ANNUAL JOINT MEETING OF CLUSTERS FIVE AND SIX Advocate Christ Medical Center has the privilege each year of hosting the May meeting of two United Church of Christ Clusters. On May 5, 2008, there will be a combined meeting of Clusters 5 and 6. We will be at the Oak Lawn Hilton (94th Street and Cicero Avenue) again this year - in the Astoria Room. We will gather at 6:00 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. The dinner will be buffet-style - beef and chicken with sides. If there are any special food needs, please let Karen Darr know as soon as possible so that the accommodation can be made in Hilton's menu. If you park on the south side of the hotel, and use the side entrance rather than the main entrance, you will have the shortest walk to the Astoria Room. In the past, we have presented a program starting at approximately 7:30 p.m., followed by the Cluster business meetings. This year our program will be "Mission Update and an Introduction to the New Perinatal Hospice Program at Advocate Christ Medical Center." Reservations for the dinner are requested on or before Monday, April 28, 2008. There are many of us in United Church of Christ churches in the Chicago area who have expertise around health and health care. We are physicians, patients, families of patients, leaders in public health, nurses, social activists, dieticians, physical therapists, health care administrators, professors of health, health policy advocates, chaplains, and so much more. When it comes to actually having an impact on the full spectrum of issues in health care justice, we have incredible resources among us! THURSDAY & FRIDAY, JUNE 12 & 13: CMA BOUNDARY TRAINING WORKSHOP CMA Boundary Training Workshop will be held again on Thursday and Friday, June 12 and 13, 2008 at the CMA office in downtown Chicago. Boundary Training is now required of all clergy with standing in CMA and all those In Care with CMA. This program will be open to both groups. CMA boundary training uses the current Faith Trust Institute video-based curriculum plus a variety of supplemental materials. This current boundary training curriculum was first offered in January 2005. If you took CMA boundary training before 2005, you will have to take it again based on the new curriculum. This CMA training is accepted throughout the Illinois Conference. Other UCC conferences may or may not accept this training. At this point, CMA boundary training need only be taken once, so if you have taken the training with CMA after 2004 and received a certificate, you do not need to sign up again. Refresher courses may be offered in the future. Each program will begin promptly at 9:00 am sharp on both days. Please plan to arrive by 8:45 am. You must be on time. The program concludes at 5:00 pm on the first day and 4:00 pm on the second day. The CMA office is located at 332 S. Michigan Ave, Suite 510, Chicago, IL, which is convenient for all public transportation. There is ample lower cost parking in the Grant Park South Garage, the south end of which is located right in front of our building. You enter the garage from an entrance lane on the left side of northbound Michigan Avenue immediately north of Van Buren Street. YOU MUST ATTEND ALL DAY BOTH DAYS TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THESE TRAININGS. The registration fee is $30 for clergy and $10 for In Care. The fee includes all meals and materials both days. Send your registration form and check (payable to CMA) to the CMA office. Attendance is limited to 16 participants. A Registration Form can be DOWNLOADED HERE. We believe this training will greatly enhance your effectiveness in ministry and be a blessing to you and the people you serve. If you have any questions about the training, please contact Rev. FRIDAY, JUNE 20: CHURCH VITALITY WORKSHOP On Friday, June 20, 2008, First Congregational United Church of Christ, 319 South State Street, Geneseo, Illinois will host an Illinois Conference workshop for those who are interested in learning more about the Church Vitality Initiative. The workshop is open to the churches and their members in the Illinois Conference. We will begin with registration at 5:30 p.m. followed by a light supper at 6:00 p.m. for those who have preregistered and conclude at 9:00 p.m. This workshop will lay the ground work for churches to become more engaged and involved in mission and ministry. Ms. Charlene J. Smith, Minister of Evangelism for Church Development and Vitality from the National Setting of the United Church of Christ will be the workshop facilitator. Registration for this workshop is necessary! There is no cost, but if you would like to make a donation for the cost of the meal, it would be welcome. This years theme is: COMMUNITIES OF RECONCILIATION IN A CULTURE OF FEAR AND REVENGE So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! The program is for church leaders and those who serve in a consultative role with congregations. This seminar offers critical foundations for guiding the missional transformation journey. Be introduced to a coherent and flexible process for major change toward a missional posture. "Missional" transformation is a learning journey of spiritual depth for congregation and leaders alike. This seminar will explore both conceptual foundations and practical strategies to - Of special focus will be to explore strategies for judicatories who seek to support congregational transformation toward a missional posture. Every four years, the UCC National Youth Event (NYE) provides an opportunity for over 3000 youth (ages 13 to 18) to gather for worship, workshops, faith, fun and fellowship. The NYE Planning Team has been working diligently and is excited to invite you to NYE for four days of inspiring worship, diverse workshops, exciting speakers and fun for high school youth from July 24-28, 2008 at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.
