CMA: Events

The entire Chicago Metropolitan Association meets twice each year. Every Fall we have a program meeting with speakers and/or workshops. Every Spring we have our annual business meeting which includes reports, elections and resolutions.

Our future meetings are currently scheduled as follows:

October 17, 2009 at First Congregational UCC in Elmhurst, Rev. Rick Mangnall, Pastor

May 1, 2010 at Kenwood United Church of Christ in Chicago, Rev. Leroy Sanders, Pastor

October 16, 2010 at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, Rev. Otis Moss III, Pastor

May 7, 2011: to be determined

October 15, 2011 at First Congregational Church of LaGrange, Rev. Dr. Richard Wolf, Pastor

The next annual meeting of the Illinois Conference will be in June 2010 in the Chicago area.

CMA Association Council

Council meetings are traditionally scheduled for the THIRD MONDAY night of each month, with no regular meetings in July or August, and the January meeting moved to avoid the King Holiday. Each meeting begins with dinner at 6pm. The Rev. Avena Ward is CMA Moderator.

The Council is planning a retreat for its members sometime in August 2009 to begin reflection and planning for next year. Details will be announced.

CMA Church and Ministry Committee

Church and Ministry meetings are typically scheduled for the SECOND THURSDAY of every month (except some months in the summer) at St. Peter's UCC in Elmhurst. Starting times vary depending on the business scheduled. Subcommittees often meet before the full committee meeting, and have been known to meet as early as 8:00am. Check with your Subcommittee Chair to determine your own schedule. Bring your own lunch.

The date of the next Church and Ministry Meeting is Thursday, August 13, 2009, 9am - 3pm at St. Peter's in Elmhurst. The Chair of Church and Ministry is The Rev. Dr. Edward Smith Davis.

CMA Church in Society Committee

Church in Society normally meets on the SECOND TUESDAY evening of each month from September through June. The date and location of the next meeting of the Committee will be announced. For more information contact The Rev. Roger Dart, Chair of the Committee.

CMA Congregational Life Committee

The new CMA committee on Congregational Life will hold its first organizational meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 from 10am - 2pm at St Pauls UCC, 2335 N Orchard Street, Chicago IL 60614. St Pauls is easily accessible from the CTA Red Line (get off at Fullerton and walk east 2 blocks; the church is located just east of Children's Memorial Hospital. Also a limited number of parking spaces are available in the lot on Kemper, just south of the church, and just east of the parsonage at 638 W Kemper.

CMA Boundary Training - October 2-3

This CMA Boundary Training Workshop is on a Friday and Saturday, October 2 and 3, at the Illinois Conference office in Westchester, IL, and is FOR CLERGY ONLY.

CMA Boundary Training is now required of all clergy with standing in CMA and all those In Care with CMA. The training uses the current Faith Trust Institute video-based curriculum plus a variety of supplemental materials. This training curriculum was first offered in January 2005. If you took CMA boundary training before 2005, you will have to take it again based on the new curriculum. This CMA training is accepted throughout the Illinois Conference. Other UCC conferences may or may not accept this training.

At this point, CMA boundary training need only be taken once, so if you have taken the training with CMA after 2004 and received a certificate, you do not need to sign up again. Refresher courses may be offered in the future.

Each program will begin promptly at 9:00 am sharp on both days. Please plan to arrive by 8:45 am. You must be on time. The program concludes at 5:00 pm on the first day and 4:00 pm on the second day.

This workshop will be held at the Illinois Conference office, 1840 Westchester Blvd, Westchester, IL 60154. Ample parking is available.

YOU MUST ATTEND ALL DAY BOTH DAYS TO RECEIVE CREDIT FOR THESE TRAININGS.

The registration fee is $30 ($10 for those In Care with CMA). The fee includes all meals and materials both days.

Send your registration form and check (payable to CMA) to the CMA office. Attendance is limited to 16 participants.

We believe this training will greatly enhance your effectiveness in ministry and be a blessing to you and the people you serve. If you have any questions about the training, please contact the Association Minister at CMA at 312-939-5918.

Future workshops are scheduled as follows:

January 28-29, 2010:
This training is on a Thursday and Friday at the CMA office in Chicago and will be open to clergy and those in care.

June 3-4, 2010:
This training is set for a Thursday and Friday at the CMA office in Chicago and is open to clergy and those in care. The date may be moved to the following weekend depending on the date selected for the Illinois Conference Annual Meeting that month.
